The lawsuit filed by Citizens of Transparency seeking to dissolve the Western Cass Fire Protection District has been denied. Citizens For Transparency consists of the two former directors that were removed by the citizens in the August 2023 recall election, Kerri VanMeveren and Darvin Schildknecht.
VanMeveren was forced to reveal in court that this group is funded by , and consists soley of, these two directors that were removed from their positions by the citizens of the district.
The current board of directors is bound by district charter to defend the district against legal actions taken against the district. If this suit had been successful then our residents would be left on their own in times of peril. Thankfully these two people, who were removed by the citizens, failed in their efforts to undermine our emergency services.
